NASHVILLE (WKRN) - A man was killed and a Metro officer was shot in the leg during an exchange of gunfire Friday night at an apartment complex in North Nashville.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, 31-year-old Sershawn Martez Dillon was shot and killed around 10:30 p.m. at the Overlook Apartments on Buena Vista Pike.

The TBI said the investigation has revealed that the deceased subject is also believed to be the man responsible for a stranger sexual assault that occurred in the same neighborhood just prior to his encounter with law enforcement.
When they arrived on the scene, police said they saw the man run into an apartment. The officers approached the apartment door.
For reasons not yet clear, the situation escalated. Shots were fired by the suspect and two police officers, the TBI reported. Dillon died at the scene.

24-year-old Officer Samuel Galluzzi was wounded and rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Just after noon on Saturday Metro police reported that Officer Galluzzi was out of surgery and recovering from gunshot wounds to his thigh and ankle.
"Police officers have the most dangerous job in the country. Last night’s shooting of Metro Nashville Police Officer Galluzzi demonstrates that officers put their lives on the line every night in life-threatening situations to keep our community safe," said Nashville FOP President James Smallwood. "We ask for the community’s support and prayers for our wounded officer and his family.”
TBI spokesman Josh Devine said there were people inside the apartment and investigators have no reason to believe the suspect knew them.
"Certainly it was a scary situation for the people inside the apartment," said Devine.
Devine stopped short of calling it a home invasion or hostage situation.
