Officials identify woman's body found at Lake Lanier


HALL COUNTY, Ga. (CBS46)- Hall County authorities have confirmed to CBS46 that a body found at Lake Lanier on October 12, 2018 is Madeline Sinagra. 

The body of Sinagra was found in an area of lake near Vans Tavern Park in Forsyth County near Vans Tavern Road. 

Hall County authorities began their investigation July 2018 when they were called to Lake Lanier regarding a possible drowning.

A male passenger aboard a boat told authorities 31-year-old Sinagra had jumped off of a sailboat to go for a swim. He said the boat drifted away from her and while she was attempting to swim back to the boat she became fatigued.

He said he attempted to throw a line to her but it was unsuccessful.  

The male reported he then went into the water in an attempt to rescue Sinagra, but was unable to locate her after she went under and did not resurface.

A rescue dive search for was conducted for approximately one hour without success, and then turned the recovery effort over to the Hall County Sheriff's Office.

The case is still under investigation by Hall County authorities.
