At least one person is dead after their plane crashed into a Payson home Saturday night.
Around 6:40 p.m., a single-engine Cessna crashed into a home in the 1400 block of North Sunset Drive, off North Easy Street.
Neighbors said it sounded like a motorcycle going down the street followed by a large boom. One man, who was eating dinner with friends a few homes down, said he heard a large thud and the ground shook.
He ran outside and found other neighbors looking for what had happened.
Krissy Ziemann, who lives across the street from the home, said they did not realize a plane had crashed because it was not visible; all they could see was that the front window of the home had been blown out.
The 82-year-old man who lives in the home came out and was also confused as to what had happened. Neighbors saw smoke coming from the garage and realized a plane had crashed, landing in a spare back bedroom.
The homeowner was uninjured.
The Payson Fire Department confirmed at least one person had died in the plane.
They were turning the investigation over to the National Transportation Safety Board.
According to flight logs, the plane was flying from the Valley to Payson, officials said.
