Two men killed at Bell Tower Shops identified

Two people were killed and one other woman was injured in what the sheriff's department called a "targeted shooting" Tuesday night at Bell Tower Shops.

A witness said she was celebrating her birthday before the shooting began around 10 p.m.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno identified the men killed as Kevin Robinson, 56, and Javarcia Riggins, 22. Robinson used to work for the City of Fort Myers. 

A woman was also shot and is in critical condition. Another man was also hurt from glass but was not shot. Initially, we were told four people had been shot, but the sheriff's office corrected that number to three. 

A woman said she was at Bell Tower for a birthday celebration that evening when at some point, someone came up to her family and shot and killed her husband. 

The woman's son then tried to run before the gunman shot and killed him as well. 

The Lee County Sheriff's Office said the shooter and the victims know each other, describing it as a "targeted shooting." The shooter escaped.

Law enforcement closed all of the shopping plaza as a massive investigation got underway.

Witnesses described the gunfire as sounding like fireworks.

 "It was really scary. There were a couple of dead bodies. They had covered them up already and there were like 10 police cars and EMTs," said Denise Mazzitti, a witness.

A group gathered at Lee Memorial Hospital following the shooting on Tuesday night. A handful of those people remained in the parking lot of the ER into the early morning hours of Wednesday.

They said they were there for a family member who was in surgery.

The group held hands in prayer while comforting each other throughout the night.
